The 15th China Textile and Clothing Expo opens in Tokyo
The 15th China Textile and Clothing Fair kicked off on the 1st in Tokyo, Japan's capital, drawing over 242 Chinese clothing companies from 47 cities across the country. The event has captured significant attention from Japanese industry leaders and buyers, highlighting the growing importance of textile and apparel trade between the two nations.
Wang Wende, Vice President of the China Textile Group, the organizer of the fair, emphasized during a press conference that Chinese textile and apparel exports reached approximately $20 billion annually. He noted that clothing trade has become a vital component of China-Japan bilateral commerce, reflecting the deepening economic ties between the two countries.
When discussing the current state of Sino-Japanese cooperation in the textile sector, Wang pointed out that the traditional model of "Japan's billing and production in China" remains prevalent among garment companies. However, he stressed that this model is no longer fully aligned with the evolving market demands of both countries. He explained that rising costs—such as labor, raw materials, and environmental compliance—are pushing Chinese manufacturers to re-evaluate their order selections. Additionally, the domestic Chinese market is gaining more attention, prompting companies to explore new opportunities closer to home.
Wang expressed hope that both Chinese and Japanese firms will adapt to these changes by exploring new areas of collaboration and enhancing their partnership. He believes that the time is right for both sides to innovate and strengthen their ties in the textile and apparel industry.
According to Wang, Japan holds strong advantages in fashion design, planning, technology, and talent. Yet, the level of collaboration between the two countries in these areas remains limited. The China Textile Group is committed to leveraging the platform of the China Textile and Apparel Fair to deepen exchanges and foster stronger partnerships between China and Japan, ultimately supporting the growth of both markets.
The first China Textile and Apparel Fair was held in Osaka in December 2003. Since then, it has been held annually in both Osaka and Tokyo, becoming a key event for industry professionals in both countries. Over the years, the fair has gained widespread recognition for its role in facilitating business connections and promoting mutual understanding between Chinese and Japanese textile and apparel companies.
This year’s 15th edition of the fair is being held at the Sunshine City Ikebukuro Cultural Hall in Tokyo. With an exhibition area of 6,000 square meters and 294 booths, it is the largest ever held in Tokyo, showcasing a wide range of products and innovations from Chinese textile and apparel companies. The event continues to serve as a crucial bridge between the two nations, fostering dialogue and driving forward the future of their textile industries.
