On January 12th, Edison Chen's "Sound Technique" art exhibition sponsored by PEACEBIRD MEN was held at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. PBM: How would you think of releasing a new album in the form of an art exhibition?

EDC: I like art very much. This idea started from the beginning of the conception album. Making this album is a long process, because I want to do the best of this album. It is the creation of the album that has taken almost five years. Therefore, we have been thinking about different promotions and cooperation. We hope to make this entire project the most perfect. And I have always felt that music and art can be combined into one, just as I said in this exhibition, "Sound is the technique," and music is also a part of art.

PBM: "A monkey" is the theme of this exhibition and is the name of your new album. Then everyone knows that you are a monkey and you like it very much. Why do you like monkeys so much?

EDC: I seem to have a special affinity with the monkeys, so I call myself "Monkey King." Just as my new album went from the first song to the third song, it was actually a flashback story about a monkey's legend, which is my own experience. And I think a lot of animations and movies are very powerful monkeys. They can keep improving, and they always fight. Men like it.

PBM: In fact, your life experience is like the process of “beating escalation”. Even if you have experienced a twist, you have not stopped or given up. What kind of conviction or courage have you been to today?

EDC: Just believe in yourself. Because life has always had different challenges, we have to face different issues. But not necessarily every problem is to strike me down. These problems can make me understand more and learn more. That is the so-called upgrade. I often say something to my fans and believe in myself. Because if you don't even believe it, then you're dead.

PBM: The monkeys after “nine deaths” tend to become more powerful. Do you think that you are also more frustrated?

My dad used to say that when I was small, I told me that when I was not working, I thought I could not do it when I was young. But I don’t admit defeat. EDC: I have my own answer. I know it, but I also hope that everyone will know it. Because people often ask me, you have so many identities, what artists, singers, bosses, which is the most favorite, or feel that it is more of their own. But these are actually me. PBM: You wear a lot of Chinese men's wear brand PEACEBIRD MEN Dragon Ball in the show. What is your deepest impression or favorite?

EDC: My favorite is pink long sleeves, because I like the character Majin Buu.

PBM: Some time ago your speech at New York University swept through social networks. You talked about manufacturing in China and talked about Chinese people wanting to create world-class things. Back to PEACEBIRD MEN, why did you choose to cooperate with this Chinese local brand?

EDC: I heard that PEACEBIRD MEN had clothes of the Dragon Ball series. It was in line with my theme of this exhibition, "a monkey". Everyone was quite talkative and they would try to cooperate together.

PBM: You now have an enviable happy family with a wife and a lovely daughter. Will the two identities of husband and father bring about changes in your attitude? For example, become more "love" or more "soft"?

EDC: I feel very happy every day I go home. I feel loved.

â–² Edison Chen and Qin Shupei met in a hot summer in Japan. At the first meeting, because of the hot weather, Edison kept sweating and Qin Shupei teased him. This became a wonderful memory of Edison Chen. When he later saw the picture, his sweaty summer had been on his mind and he immediately bought this picture from an unknown artist without hesitation. This picture has been hung in Edison Chen's room. Later, when her daughter Alaia was born, her cradle has been on the side of the painting. "She sees this picture more than I see my father." Edison Chen said that this painting has also become a symbol of his family connection.
