Foshan, Huzhou, and Dongguan are key hubs in China's children's clothing industry, accounting for nearly a third of global production. However, these clusters are now grappling with the challenge of industrial upgrading. Recently, the Foshan Chancheng Central City Children's Clothing Industry Association held its general election, marking the official transition of leadership. Cao Yunfeng, president of Calfit Garments Co., Ltd., has taken on the role of chairman. According to the association, Foshan’s children's clothing sector has made significant progress in its transformation. Several key platforms for upgrading have been completed, and the foundational work for industrial development is already underway, paving the way for higher-level growth.
Li Shaohua, deputy director of the Zumiao Street Office in Chancheng, emphasized that Foshan’s children's clothing industry has long participated in major national platforms such as the China International Fashion Week and the China International Clothing & Accessories Fair. These efforts have helped increase awareness of Foshan's children's wear, building a stronger community and industry visibility. Under the leadership of the new president, Cao Yunfeng, the focus has shifted from simply enhancing visibility to creating an independent platform to attract external attention and resources.
This self-built platform includes a "Children's Fashion Creative Park," two centers—the "China Fashion Association Children's Clothing Development Center" and the "Foshan Chancheng Ring Children's Wear Innovation Center"—and three major events: the "China Children's Wear Design Competition," "National Children's Wear Design Competition," and the "Junior Chinese Children's Model Competition." These initiatives aim to mobilize local companies to participate actively and bring national resources into Foshan, positioning it as a globally recognized "Children's Fashion Creative Garden."
Additionally, several collaborative platforms have been established, including a production-research cooperation platform, a brand incubation platform, and a college students' employment and entrepreneurship platform. For instance, the introduction of the Karl Fett children's wear brand through the "Brand Industry Chain Strategic Alliance" highlights efforts to integrate internal and external resources, share risks, and maximize benefits.
Looking ahead, Li Shaohua stressed that Foshan's children's clothing industry must embrace creativity and fashion to evolve into a global brand management hub. With this transformation, Foshan is set to showcase a renewed image, expanding its influence beyond the country and onto the world stage.
